Storring’s work is a peculiar hybrid of styles—marrying the lushness of orchestral music, the idiosyncratic detail of free improvisation, and the plainspoken melodies and rough-hewn sounds of various folk musics. Gardens was designed as an informal tribute to arranger/ producer/ composer Charles Stepney—a significant influence for Storring, and the album reflects a common interest in psychedelic texture. Gardens is a follow up to his acclaimed debut on Entr’acte, Rife. Gardens was funded by the Canadian Music Centre’s 2011 Toronto Emerging Composer Award.
